Author: J. Saman (Also known as Julie Saman)

    Publication Date: January 3, 2022

    Category: Steamy contemporary romance

Series or Stand-alone: Can be read as a stand-alone though it is part of an interconnected series where multiple characters appear throughout the books with one main couple per book. This is book 2 in that series.

HEA: Features a happy for now, though the future books tend to talk about past main couples.

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

Fade to Black or Closed Door: No, there are a number of on-page steamy scenes.

Spice Level: 3 out of 5 - multiple male/female scenes with lots of MMC dirty talk. This book is plot-driven with steamy scenes.

    Synopsis from Author

He's my best friend's older brother. My boss. And now my new roommate...

In the hospital, death always comes in threes. Apparently, so do mistakes.

Mistake number one? My fiancé, who I just learned is cheating on me. So much for being the strong, in control doctor who's always on top of her game...

Mistake number two? Knocking on the wrong door.

The door I thought still belonged to my best friend now belongs to his older brother, my obnoxious, overly cocky, gorgeous-as-sin attending physician, Carter Fritz.

The billionaire playboy gives me a place to stay, and a shoulder to cry on. But when he makes me feel seen for the first time in I don’t even know how long, I tell myself I don’t regret what was easily the hottest, most earth-shattering night of my life.

That is until mistake number three comes along... and I'm staring down at a stick with two pink lines.

Having a baby at this stage of my residency could cost me everything I’ve worked so hard to build.

But Carter? He's undeterred. He doesn't just want more; he wants it ALL.
    Including me.

But what happens if following my heart turns out to be my biggest mistake of all?
DOCTOR MISTAKE is a 105k word super STEAMY, deliciously angsty forbidden romance that will hit you straight in the feels! It is a standalone in the bestselling Boston's Billionaire Bachelors series featuring Boston's hottest billionaire doctors and the women they fall head over heels for!

    My Review

I've read several of J. Saman's books and there's definitely a reason she's a bestselling author. Each book I've read has been a solid, enjoyable read and Doctor Mistake is no different.

This book features a double-doctor couple. Carter is an attending and Grace is a resident who, of course, works under Carter at the same hospital. Not only that but Carter is her best friend's older brother.

These and a few other reasons make this a forbidden relationship that has to overcome multiple obstacles.

    Pros

    • I love that it deals with real-life issues like epilepsy and a cheating former fiance (not one of the main characters) and the blow to self-confidence that brings
    • I love a main male character that falls obsessively first and doesn't shy away from dirty talk
    • While there is angst and will they or won't they that builds up, it doesn't drag on
    • Features a large family the series is based on so you see the various characters interacting throughout the books

    Cons

    • Miscommunication and assuming/not communicating is a big part of this book - but not to the point of too much annoyance for me
    • Nothing too unique about the way this story is told other than including epilepsy - you're pretty much told the story in the synopsis blurb
    • It ends on an HFN versus a HEA

I felt like Doctor Mistake was a decently solid steamy romance read.

It reads and flows like many other romance books, but I didn't start reading this book expecting something totally new and different.

I did appreciate that a unique factor was the main female lead having epilepsy, which was woven throughout the book.

There is cheating from a fiance that happens in this book, but the cheating doesn't happen between the main characters. It instead helps the main characters end up together.

Our MMC has been pining, lusting, and falling in love with the FMC for a while now without her having any idea.

The MMC isn't very upfront about his feelings, so the FMC having her confidence shattered by her now ex and, as usual, thinking the MMC is a total playboy, takes a while to get on board with having a real relationship.

As such, there is a good portion of mutual pining in the book, with the MMC trying to not move too quickly while the FMC overthinks things and second-guesses herself.

I'm not really a fan of overthinking characters as I do enough of that in real life myself (ha) but I didn't find this one to be too overwhelming and tiring.

Part of that is due to the story still being paced well and the fact the MMC calls her out to stop overthinking multiple times within the book.

The more frustrating part for me was the lack of communication and running away from your problems when you're in your late 20s to early 30s, leaving people to worry about you instead of talking things out.

If you enjoy spice in your books, this one will likely not disappoint.

There are a number of steamy scenes, especially in the last half of the book. There's a lot of dirty talk, but not too much kink, though there's an interesting restaurant scene featuring an ice cube.

The ending was another weak part for me. This standalone is part of an inter-connected series so there may be a more satisfying ending in a future book for these main characters.

The ending was a satisfying happy for now, but I do personally prefer a look into the future.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It gets a solid 4 stars from me for being a book I liked and would recommend others to read, though not to the point I'd read it again nor did it really stick with me after I finished it.
