Category: Paranormal Fantasy Romance
Relationship: This book features a fated mates M/F relationship between a werewolf (Kian) and vampire (Morgana)
POV: Told from the POV of both the male and female main characters
Series or Stand-Alone: This is a stand-alone book that is part of a series set in the same universe of The Ruthless Kings.
Length: Medium - 303 pages
Ending: Ends with a happily ever after including a look into the future
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Open or Closed Door: Open door
Spice Level: 4 out of 5 peppers - There are several detailed spicy scenes that feature dirty talk and various kinks including blood play.
The book is more plot driven with some smut sprinkled in.
Book Boyfriend Material: Kian is a werewolf and starts out so harsh that it’s kind of hard to come around and eventually like him, if I’m being honest.
But, if you like your book boyfriend rough around the edges to the point of being abusive to his girl and seeing him come around to the other side willing to both kill and die for her, Kian is for you.
His werewolf counterpart, Thanatos, was a lot more enjoyable and a treat to read.
“No, not like Morgana and me because she isn’t behind me. She is always right beside me. We are one and fu–ing equal,”
FMC: Morgana is a vampire that comes from a powerful family but has been through some stuff. Because of this, she’s not spoiled but rather usually gets the short end of the stick.
She’s confident, stubborn and rather impulsive, but also compassionate and doesn’t give up easily.
I often enjoy FMC’s that are strong and able to take care of themselves while being a little crazy and Morgana fits this well.
Readability: Easy to read and flows well with minimal grammatical issues.
Themes/Tropes: Enemies to lovers; fated mates
Author’s Supplied Triggers: “This book is not for those under the age of 18.”

Synopsis From Author
He’s her fated mate. Her sworn enemy. Her captor.
And she’s the only one who can bring the Alpha King to his knees...
In a brutal world where the strong rule and women are silenced, Morgana Araton is anything but submissive. A fierce vampire princess with fire in her veins, she’ll stop at nothing to avenge her father’s murder—even if it means assassinating the Alpha King himself.
But when her plan fails, she’s taken prisoner by the very man she vowed to destroy.
Kian Araqiel is the feared Alpha King—ruthless, merciless, and disgusted to find his fated mate is a bloodsucker from the Sanguine Empire. Her defiance should be punished. Her presence should be unbearable.
So why does he crave her like a drug?
Trapped in a deadly palace of wolves, Morgana must fight her captor, her desire, and the bond that threatens to consume them both. But as a greater enemy rises in the shadows, they may have to choose: destroy each other… or protect the world together.
Dark. Addictive. Savage.
This is a high-heat enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance with blood play, fated mates, and a possessive Alpha who learns that taming his queen may cost him everything.
My Review
This was another enjoyable read from Moonlight Muse . Overall, The Alpha King’s Possession wasn’t my most favorite book of hers but includes solid characters, good flow, and enough action (both storyline and intimate) that you’re not likely to get bored.
Likes
- Empowering female character
- Enjoyable banter between characters, including between the MMC and his wolf
- Good amount of spice within plot
Dislikes
- MMC is so mean while internally acting like he has real feelings for FMC that he’s hard to like or find redeemable once he smartens up
Overall, I enjoyed my time with this book even if it’s not one that would end up on my would read again list.
I recommend it to anyone that enjoys spicy fantasy enemies to lovers, especially with werewolves and vampires.
I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers book, with the exception of when one of the main characters knows the other main character is their fated or they know they have feelings for them and still treat them like utter crap for a while. Especially when they suddenly decide to no longer have rectal cranial inversion without much transition or groveling, which unfortunately this book features.
That aside, Muse is one of the authors I turn to when I want a fantasy book with strong empowering female characters that also make room for humor and this book certainly fits that need.
