My Review
Sometimes you need a quick read that's super steamy without a bunch of plot to wade through. 21 Week Hiatus, and the first two books of the series, is perfect for those occasions.
Likes
- A quick taboo romance that's well-written and flows nicely
- Lots of nicely written spicy scenes
- A good balance of satisfying closure for the series while still leaving the door open for continuing their story
(Potential) Dislikes
- If you don't enjoy books with more spice than plot, this likely isn't for you
- There is an MFM scene close to the end of the book - not a permanent addition to the relationship - that may not be for everyone
Shayla Hart was one of the first romance authors I came across when I delved into the world of romance books a few years ago.
I enjoyed the book so much that I immediately read everything else I could find by her and none of them have disappointed me since.
Shayla's books are usually on the longer side and have a good amount of plot, but she decided to do something a bit different with the Sinful Desires series - shorter books with mostly steam.
There's very minimal plot. Mostly just noting the character's jobs, thoughts about what's going on, and brief interactions with family and friends.
The rest is several detailed spicy scenes.
We've seen in the past books in this series how guilty our main characters feel about their taboo relationship - an age gap with her ex-boyfriend's father - but they just can't stay away from each other.
In fact, they just may have fallen head over heels for each other even outside the bedroom.
It was inevitable that someone would figure out what's going on between them and now that their secret's out, can Logan and Savi still make things work?
I'm usually hesitant to read shorter insta-love type of books as they aren't always the best written but 21 Week Hiatus is very well and professionally written.
That said, Shayla usually writes very monogamous and possessive characters so do keep in mind this book features an MFM scene, though the man doesn't become a part of the long-term relationship.
While there is an inevitable breakup, the storyline doesn't drag on and does end on a very happy note with the potential to continue in the future.
I’d recommend 21 Week Hiatus for anyone looking for a well-written quick-read series that is quite spicy with minimal plot.
